Harvest Moon, pt 4

Your inventory:

  • A small flashlight with dead batteries
  • Nick’s car-related paperwork
  • A generic fast food straw
  • A napkin containing some mushed-up sausage rolls
  • A lighter
  • Half a packet of mints

You decide to try the telephone.

You lift the handset to your ear and are met with the reassuring hum of a dialling tone. For a moment, you’d convinced yourself the line would be dead. Can’t imagine why you might think that.

Then you stop. Your mobile is back at the car wreck and was last seen shattered beyond use. You haven’t had to manually dial a number in years, much less remember one. You have absolutely no idea who to call or even how you’d begin to find out their contact information. Is directory enquiries still a thing?

Then a moment of brilliance hits you: You have the paperwork from the glovebox compartment. There’s bound to be something useful there!

Replacing the handset, you dig into your pockets and pull out the wad of papers. Amongst the scrappy remains of the generic manufacturer’s guides, Nick had – against better advice- shoved his original insurance paperwork in there. Not that you can complain: You now have a range of options for who to call. 

Wonder of wonders, amongst the client contact details, Nick’s own mobile number is written.

It’s entirely possible that the man himself has already done the honours and contacted roadside assistance or his insurer, but it might not hurt to double check. It would be reassuring to confirm that someone is on their way to help.

As you consider your next step, you spot a pen tucked behind the telephone. You pick it up and fiddle with it. It is absent-mindedly added to your inventory.

So, what would you like to do next?

  2. Call the car insurers?
  3. Call roadside assistance?
  4. Examine the room’s paintings?
  5. Examine the room’s knick knacks?
