As you reach the bottom of the attic stairs, you take the first openable door on your right. It leads into what you think must be the main bedroom.
The air smells foisty in here and you wonder if there might be a mold problem. It wouldn’t be too surprising given the age of the place. It smells as though someone has tried to deal with the problem by overcompensating with perfume. It’s really quite unpleasant.
The room itself, like so many others in this place, is large and is filled by large pieces of furniture. In the centre of the room is a huge four poster bed outlined in ornately-carved dark wood with a forest-green velvet canopy. It has been made. There are a couple of substantial wardrobes large enough to contain gaggle of hide and seekers, a fine-looking dressing table covered with archaic looking beauty items, an elegant silvered mirror, and a couple of standing lamps. These are turned on. There is also a small seating area comprised of a couple of plush armchairs and a reading table. A book is sitting there. The cover is well-worn, but it doesn’t look very important.
The chamber wouldn’t be out of place in a stately home. You’re almost surprised by the lack of a rope barrier preventing you from going too far. You get a giddy and almost naughty thrill from walking further into the bedroom. This is someone’s private space and you’re most definitely intruding on it. You cast a glance over your shoulder as you reach the bed and walk beyond.
The windows look out onto the gravel area at the front of the house and the driveway approach. If you stand on tiptoes, you can see the flickering headlights indicating the car wreck.
Finally, you turn your attention to the doors that lead out of this room. Including the door back onto the landing, there are three. All of them are openable. The door to the east leads to an en suite which is as large as any standard bathroom you’ve ever seen. The door to the west leads to what you can only imagine must be a study.
What would you like to do next?
- Investigate the dressing table?
- Investigate the bed?
- Look at the mirror?
- Go back onto the landing?
- Go into the ensuite?
- Go into the study?
